Changing the Company Associated with a Lead

Switching the company associated with the lead
If you want to change the company with which the lead is associated, you must edit the lead directly and change the company name in one of the following ways:
- Method 1: This method enables you to switch the company associated with a lead to another existing company in the system. This method ensures that you don’t create any duplicate companies.
- First, navigate to the lead you want to edit.
- From the Lead Detail Page’s Quick Actions Menu click on “Edit Lead”.
- Click on the blue minus button beside the Company Name field.
- A pop-up will appear that says “Unlink Company – Are you sure you want to unlink [Company Name] from this Lead?” Click “Yes” to confirm.
- The Company Name field will be cleared. Begin typing in the field, and from the search results select the existing company with which you now want to associate the lead.
- The fields related to the company will now be populated with the information about the new company you selected.
- Once you’ve made your changes, click on the “Save” button.
- Once you’ve saved your changes, this will update the lead and associate it with the newly selected company.
- Method 2: This method enables you to switch the company associated with a lead to a new company that does not already exist in the system. This method may result in the creation of duplicate companies.
- First, navigate to the lead you want to edit.
- From the Lead Detail Page’s Quick Actions Menu click on “Edit Lead”.
- Click on the blue minus button beside the Company Name field.
- A pop-up will appear that says “Unlink Company – Are you sure you want to unlink [Company Name] from this Lead?” Click “Yes” to confirm.
- The Company Name field will be cleared. Begin typing the new company’s information and select “Create New Company” from the search results.
- Once you’ve made your changes, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on the “Save” button.
- The lead will be associated with an existing company ONLY if the name and zip code that are entered match that of an existing company.
- If the name and zip code you enter do not match an existing company, a new company will be created. So if you happen to misspell the name or enter the zip code incorrectly, you risk creating a duplicate.
- Once you’ve saved your changes, this will update the lead and associate it with an existing company (if a match is found) or the newly created company.
Editing the company’s information from a lead
If you want to edit a lead’s company’s information, you may edit the lead directly and update the Company Name in the following way.
This method enables you to edit the Company Name directly from the lead:

- First, navigate to the lead that you want to edit.
- From the Lead Detail Page’s Quick Actions Menu click on “Edit Lead”.
- Below the Company Name field select “Edit Company”. A pop-up will appear allowing you to update the contents of that field. Click “Save” to confirm the edits.
- Once you’ve completed your changes, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on the “Save” button.
- Once you’ve saved your changes, this will update both the lead and the Company Detail Page for that company.
