Changing the Contact Associated with a Lead
Changing the Contact Associated with a Lead
Switching the contact associated with a lead
If you want to change the contact with which a lead is associated, you must edit the lead directly and change the contact in one of the following ways:
- Method 1: This method enables you to switch the contact associated with a lead to another existing contact in the system.
- First, navigate to the lead that you want to edit.
- From the Lead Detail Page’s Quick Actions Menu, click on “Edit Lead”.
- Click on the blue minus button beside the First Name, Last Name, or Email fields.
- A pop-up will appear that says “Unlink Contact – Are you sure you want to unlink [contact name] from this Lead?” Click “Yes” to confirm.
- The First Name, Last Name, and Email fields will be cleared. Begin typing in any of these fields, and from the search results select the existing contact with which you now want to associate the lead.
- The fields related to the contact will now be populated with information about the new contact you selected.
- Once you’ve made your changes, click on the “Save” button.
- Once you’ve saved your changes, this will update the lead and associate it with the newly selected contact.
- Method 2: This method enables you to switch the contact associated with a lead to a new contact that does not already exist in the system.
- First, navigate to the lead that you want to edit.
- From the Lead Detail Page’s Quick Action Menu, click on “Edit Lead”.
Begin typing in the new contact’s information and select “Create New Contact” from the search results.
- Once you’ve made your changes, click on the “Save” button.
- The lead will be associated with an existing contact ONLY IF the name and email address that you entered match that of the existing contact.
- If the name and email address you enter do not match an existing contact, a new contact will be created. So if you happen to misspell the name or enter the email address incorrectly, you risk creating a duplicate contact.
- Once you’ve saved your changes, this will update the lead and associate it with an existing contact (if a match is found) or the newly created contact.
Editing the contact’s information from a lead
